EEG NEUROFEEDBACK

Dr. Neff utilizes EEG-based neurofeedback in the office to help train your brain to function more efficiently. She is an Othmer-method certified (OMC) neurofeedback provider who practices infralow frequency (ILF) neurofeedback as well as more traditional EEG band neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback involves using the power of your own brain to change its own patterns. A client is hooked up to electrodes while looking at a screen and watching landscapes or videos. The electrodes pick up the natural electrical activity happening in your brain. Through visual and auditory feedback, the brain identifies its own patterns in real time. Certain optimal brain waves are rewarded through a connecting computer while your brain makes beneficial changes (such as calming down or learning how to better focus). These rewards “show up” on the screen in the form of brighter imagery, or in the form of enhanced audio features.

With neurofeedback, your brain does the work for you. You get to sit in a comfortable chair and watch videos or play video games as your brain learns how to regulate itself. In the meantime, you will experience relief and feel much more relaxed.

Through a series of neurofeedback sessions, the brain learns to lay down new patterns and how to function more efficiently. A certain number of sessions are required for these patterns to “hold” outside of the office, where you will start to see changes in your thinking, emotion regulation, coping skills, or in focus and executive functioning. Essentially, by training the brain to work more optimally through self-regulation, negative symptoms reduce and quality of life improves.
